Díaz, Núñez & Co - Five Liverpool players that could be sold amid Arne Slot's spending spree

Liverpool have been incredibly active in the transfer window this summer, completing three major deals and they’ve not finished yet. Arne Slot enjoyed a remarkable maiden season in Merseyside, winning a record-equalling 20th English top flight title and Anfield chiefs certainly aren’t resting on their laurels. Liverpool’s transfer business over the years has been the envy of clubs across Europe and their slick operation has allowed them to spend big this summer.

Only Chelsea (€244 million) have spent more than Liverpool (€214m) and Slot’s men will leapfrog their Premier League rivals, if they can secure a deal for Hugo Ekitiké. Eintracht Frankfurt have rejected an opening bid for the French U21 international but it’s expected that an agreement will be reached in the coming days. Etitike’s current market value is €75m deal but it’s understood that Frankfurt’s valuation is in excess of that valuation and his signature could take Liverpool’s spending this summer beyond €300m. While the focus has been on new arrivals at Anfield, we’ve analysed five high-profile players that could depart to allow Liverpool to balance their books.

Five players Liverpool could sell this summer

Konstantinos Tsimikas appears destined to depart this summer after Liverpool’s acquisition of Milos Kerez from Bournemouth for €47 million. Given the outlay, Kerkez is expected to be first-choice left-back next season with Andy Robertson providing competition. Robertson has been an outstanding servant to Liverpool but his performances dropped off considerably last season but he’s expected to remain at the club. Despite stating his desire to stay, Tsimikas realistically has no future at Anfield and he has interest from other Premier League clubs with Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Leeds United previously linked.

Liverpool have strengthened their full-back options during the window but they’ve got major decisions to make at centre-back. They only have three senior centre-backs on their books and they will face a dilemma over Ibrahima Konate. The French international only has one year left on his contract and he’s been strongly linked to Real Madrid and PSG. Liverpool could decide to cash in on Konate this summer to avoid losing him on a free but they’ll hope to convince him to extend his stay as he remains a top-class defender. Liverpool realistically need to add at least one new centre-back this summer but they could decide to cash in on Joe Gomez. The England international was on the verge of joining Newcastle United last summer and he could earn Liverpool a sizable fee with his market value at €20m.

Luis Díaz played a significant role as Liverpool won their 20th league title with 20 goal contributions in 36 games but his future remains uncertain. The Colombian international has been constantly linked with Barcelona across the last 18 months but Bayern Munich want to sign him. The Bundesliga giants have already had a €68m bid rejected but they are expected to return with an improved offer and it’s understood that Diaz is open to moving to Germany. It would represent excellent business for Liverpool as they will net a profit on the €54m they paid Porto for Diaz in 2022 and the winger will turn 29 next season.

Darwin Núñez is a popular figure at Anfield but Liverpool will net a considerable fee, if they cash in on the striker. Saudi Pro League clubs wanted to sign Nunez in January but he decided to remain in England but opportunities to head to the Middle East remain. Liverpool’s pursuit of Etitike and reported interest indicated that Nunez will probably depart this summer and Liverpool will be targeting a fee in excess of his €45m valuation. The 26-year-old has received criticism during his time in England but his skillset.

Harvey Elliott inspired England to glory in the U21 European Championships and he was the best player at the tournament. Liverpool will be in no rush to sell Elliott given his versatility and talent but he deserves more first-team opportunities. The 22-year-old only played 822 minutes in all competitions last season and he was limited to just 360 minutes in the Premier League. Elliott reportedly wants to play regularly next season and he won’t be short of suitors.
