Forget Mbeumo - Five cheaper and better right winger options for Man Utd to sign this summer

Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford winger Bryan Mbeumo is quickly descending into a farce. What once started as a pretty straightforward transfer story has developed into a full-blown saga, with the Bees reportedly upping their asking price at every opportunity to eke out more money from their Old Trafford rivals. According to the Guardian, Brentford have now raised their asking price for the 25-year-old winger to €81 million. If Man Utd were to agree to such a demand, it would make Mbeumo Brentford’s record sale, coming in at almost twice what they earned from Ivan Toney’s €42m move to Al-Ahli last summer.
However, rather than spend the entire summer window pursuing a player that may never become available, Man Utd may be better placed to turn their attention to other transfer targets. After all, football is full of exceptional players that could fill the hole on Rúben Amorim’s right wing this season. And in most cases, they’d cost a lot less than the transfer fee Brentford would demand for Mbuemo. So who are the cheaper and perhaps better right-wing options for Man Utd to consider buying this summer?
Sindre Walle Egeli
The first name on our list is a somewhat unknown quantity within the higher echelons of European football because he’s still plying his trade in Denmark. However, since making the step up to Nordsjaelland’s first team in 2024, Sindre Walle Egeli has been nothing short of remarkable at senior level, bagging 16 goals and assists in 37 games. Whether tasked with playing on the right or left wing or even up front as a centre forward, the 19-year-old Norwegian talent has averaged a very respectable 0.58 goals and assists per 90 in all competitions for the club. And in many ways looks set to follow in the footsteps of former Nordsjaelland stars like Mikkel Damsgaard, Mohammed Kudus and Conrad Harder by soon leaving the club and becoming an exceptional talent at a top five league in Europe.
Ernest Nuamah
The next star on our list is actually another former Nordsjaelland graduate in Ernest Nuamah. Despite only being 21 years of age, Nuamah has already made two moves for a combined €53.5m. In the summer of 2023 he moved to Belgian side RWDM only to then get snapped up by Lyon on an immediate loan move, before the deal was made permanent for €28.5m 12 months later. And it’s not hard to see why. At the Danish club Nuamah bagged an impressive 25 goals and assists in 49 games and last season he averaged a solid 0.49 goals and assists per 90 for the Ligue 1 giants, despite their obvious problems on and off the pitch. Nuamah is still relatively untested, but would likely be available for a fee that falls well below what Brentford want for Mbeumo. And if he lives up his potential, the Ghanaian winger would prove to be a real bargain for the Old Trafford club.
Yéremy Pino
Another young prospect that would prove to be an exceptional addition to Man Utd’s wings next season is Villarreal talent Yéremy Pino. Having joined the LaLiga club as a youth player in 2019, Pino quickly made the step up to the first team just a year later and has now completed his four, successive seasons in the Spanish top-flight. Despite his young age, the 22-year-old talent bagged an impressive 0.63 goal contributions per 90 in all competitions for his club last season. Such performances in LaLiga have earned Pino 15 call ups to the Spain national team and is undoubtedly a future star in the making, who could prove to be an exceptional, long-term option for Man Utd’s problems on the right wing.
Matías Soulé
If Man Utd would instead prefer to look toward the Serie A for a solution to their attacking problems, an ideal candidate could be found in Roma’s Matías Soulé. The young Argentinian winger came through Juventus’ youth ranks, but like so many young players at the club he didn’t get a clear shot at the first team and moved to Roma last summer for €25.6m. Since then, the 22-year-old winger has bagged 10 goals and assists in 27 league games for his new club, averaging 0.50 goal contributions per 90. As an added bonus, Soulé can also play through the middle as an attacking midfielder or even as a right wing-back if called upon.
Arda Güler
The last name on our list is undoubtedly an audacious one, but perhaps what will be needed to quell the discontent among Man Utd fans and their need for proven players to join the club this summer. Although Arda Güler has a sizable market value of €45m, he has undoubtedly struggled for significant game time since making the move to Real Madrid in 2023 for €24m. Last season he featured in just 37% of his team’s LaLiga campaign and it looks even less likely that he’ll be awarded a starting role in this coming campaign. As such, the right winger may be on the look out for a new club and, perhaps like Martin Ødegaard before him, Güler may find plenty of success in making the move to the Premier League to play for a club that can offer him a starting role each and every week. Perhaps that could be Man Utd.
